Mark Jacoby PDF Print E-mail

photoWarden

Mark Jacoby was raised in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, received his BA in Art History from Kenyon College and went on to complete the Christie’s Fine Arts course in London. He moved to New York in 1980 to work for Philip Colleck, a noted dealer in 18th century English furniture. On his first day at work he met Diana, who later became his wife. He and Diana were married by the Reverend Andrew Mullins in 1988 at St. Bartholomew’s. Since that time he and Diana have owned and operated Philip Colleck, Ltd. They started attending services at Epiphany in 1999 when they heard Rev. Mullins had returned to New York to become the new Rector of Epiphany. Mark has been privileged to serve on the vestry for six years, and is currently serving his second year as a warden. "I feel extremely fortunate to be part of the Epiphany community"  Many thanks, Mark.

Helen Goodkin has been a member of Epiphany since 2003, when she became the mentor for the EFM group.  Since then, she has worked on the Auction Dinner, the Flower Guild, led Bible Study Groups, and been a lay reader.  Following a career in healthcare, Helen studied for an MA in Biblical Studies at GTS and is hoping to become a Pastoral Visitor.  A member of the vestry for two years, she looks forward to helping discern where the Spirit is calling the Church of Epiphany, a community which offers prayerful support to its members as well as active mission to the wider community.

Raised in the Yorkville area, Louise graduated from the Brearley School, Barnard College and received her M.A. from New York University.  Professionally, she has taught computer education and music at various schools, most recently at The Brearley School where she also set up an after-school program.  She has served on the Vestry and as Warden of the Church of Saint James the Less in Scarsdale and as a Board member of the House of the Redeemer in New York and of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.  She has also been a member of the choir both at St. James the Less and at Epiphany.  She was drawn to Epiphany because of its intimacy, simplicity and because she knew it had been established on York Avenue to provide spiritual support for patients and staff at the hospitals nearby.  In September, she joined other Epiphany parishioners in becoming a chaplain at the Hospital for Special Surgery and feels the spirit at Epiphany strengthens and guides her as she seeks to serve others.

Originally from the suburbs of Detroit, MI, I moved to New York City for the first time in 1987 after graduating from the Stanford Business School in Palo Alto, CA.  I've subsequently returned to New York after two stints abroad with General Motors in Switzerland and Germany.  I now reside on the Upper East Side with my wife Christina and two sons, Kevin and Jamie, and am VP and Treasurer of General Motors Company.  The last few years there have really tested my perseverance and faith.  I was raised a Lutheran but started attending Episcopal services at an English-speaking church while living in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1995.  My family and I sought an Episcopal church when we moved back to New York in 2003 and were blessed to find Epiphany in 2006 when Jamie began attending the Church of the Epiphany Day School.  We were impressed with the warmth and friendliness we found in the clergy and congregation and have been extremely happy to see the number of families with children in the church grow in the years since our arrival.  We feel blessed to be part of a wonderfully welcoming and vibrant community and have many good, new friends at Epiphany.

photoVestry - Inter-parish Life

A Southern transplant to the Big Apple, I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, attended Amherst College and moved to NYC in the summer of 2000. I work as a Marketing Director for American Express. I grew up attending church, singing in the Children's Choir, working in the nursery and actively participating in the church youth group. In early 2002, I started a quest for a church home in NYC and the first (and last) place I went was Epiphany. Ironically, my first Sunday was Epiphany Sunday in January 2002. Those things that attracted me to Epiphany then continue to be the foundation for why I worship here: the music program, the warm community of people, the dedication of the clergy and staff and the solace and peace I find when I enter the doors. My connection to Epiphany has continued to deepen and grow. In April 2006, I had the opportunity to marry my husband Paul at the church with Andrew officiating. I feel so fortunate to have found a church home here at Epiphany and am grateful to be able to serve on our Vestry.

photoVestry - Newcomers

I was born and raised in Hilton Head Island, SC but I have been living in the New York area for the last 12 years.   In 1991, I graduated from Villanova University and I received my MBA from Columbia University in 1998.  I worked for Merrill Lynch for 12 years and recently moved to Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.   As a child I was very active in the local Episcopal Church including serving as an acolyte until I left for college.    My wife Janna and I visited Epiphany along with a number of other Episcopal churches when we moved to the neighborhood.   There was no comparison.   Epiphany members welcomed us from our very first visit and we love that the church is filled with so many children as we have recently had our second child.  With PJ and Ryan in our lives,  Janna and I had the opportunity to revisit our owh faith and strengthened our dedication to raise our children with the same faith my  our parents instilled in us.

photoVestry - Treasurer

Originally from Baltimore, I moved to New York in September 2000 to work at NYU.  Shortly thereafter, I changed jobs and became the Department Administrator of Neurological Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.  I decided to transfer to Epiphany after attending the Pentecost service in 2001.  I remember that the organ was "out of commission" but the choir and music was just as beautiful as any other church service I had attended.  I was also impressed by the "speaking in tongues" during the Gospel.  I think there was about 15 or so languages spoken that Sunday.  My wife, Mary, moved to New York in June of 2001.  Highlights since arriving at Epiphany include helping with the Wednesday dinner program and singing in the choir.  I am completing my third year on the Vestry and have been parish Treasurer for two years.  I am a firm believer that we all must support the Lord's work through time, talent and treasure.  I have spoken on two or three occasions about Stewardship and would urge everyone to think about their talents, thank the Lord for their abilities, and share with others the grace and love of Jesus.

Marsha Harper was serving as warden during the Rector’s sabbatical. “It has been a remarkable if challenging experience. I am honored to have had that opportunity as I am honored to be a member of this strong and vibrant church family.”

photoVestry

Lily has been a memeber of the church since 2002. “I've been with Epiphany since 2002, what caught my attention and brought me here was the big sign that hung outside the church that said ‘All Are Welcomed’ and that is true - I've always felt welcomed, particularly by Father Andrew.  What I love about the church is that everyone is down to earth (once you get to know them).  I'm a member of the Parish Nurse Group and also a crucifer/altar guild now and then.  Why would I want to serve on the Vestry?  I would want to help the church in any way I can and if this is another way - then I'm in it!”
