A Letter from the Interim Choirmaster and Organist - 10/8
My responsibilities have increased at Epiphany over the last few months, and my coursework has intensified simultaneously as I finish my final year at the Juilliard School. This is a momentous year for Church of the Epiphany, and with any physical move, unexpected surprises inevitably lie ahead, the day-to-day routine is broken, and things sometimes occur for which one may never be fully prepared, requiring clergy, staff, and volunteers to be “on-call” and ready for do what is necessary. Keeping this in mind in advance, I will need to prioritize this last year at Juilliard, and take this time to finish as strongly as possible after all I have invested in my education. Considering these things, I believe that it would be best for me to step down from my role as Interim Choirmaster and Organist effective Sunday, 24 October 2021.
As you know, there is never a good time to leave a church; however, I knew that this was the best time for you, so that you have adequate time to prepare for the Christmas season and for the upcoming move. There would have been nothing more unsettling to me, personally, than if I had left at any later date where you would potentially be scrambling to find an appropriate candidate under time constraints either for Christmas, Easter, and/or the big move. After speaking with Fr. Roy and Elise, I think they agree that it would be best to delay the return of the volunteer choir until a replacement is found. I apologize for the inconvenience; I was looking forward to getting to know you further through making music together.
Thank you for providing such a supportive atmosphere and for demonstrating to me your encouragement many times over, for which I am so grateful; this makes it difficult to leave. However, I hope that this will not at all be a 'final goodbye,’ and I sincerely look forward to following and supporting the continued progress of Church of the Epiphany and all that God has in store for it and its community of believers. Epiphany has held, and will continue to hold a very special place in my heart.
