Epiphany 351 Update - September 18

While many of the updates in this column have been about what is happening at 351 East 74th Street, some of the changes needed to prepare ourselves for our new home will happen here, at our historic church home. One of those changes helps inform the design of our new worship space. To help all of us to better understand the ways in which worship can happen at 351 we have the opportunity to try out a few models here.
The change in Altar and Choir placement is something Epiphany has seen many times before. One of the strengths of this parish is its flexibility—especially as it relates to liturgy and music. It’s part of what adds spiritual richness and vitality to not only our worship, but deepens our experience of God from week to week. For the next number of months the Altar will be on the floor of the Nave with the choir facing the congregation from behind the Altar. Epiphany has worshiped this way on a number of occasions, so it isn’t a radical change. However, it will help us better understand how this arrangement could potentially be expressed at our new church.
As with all things concerning the renovation of 351 and our future life in our new home, the Wardens, Vestry and I are very eager to hear your questions and suggestions so please don’t hesitate to speak with any one of us. And, as ever, we ask for your prayers that God may continue to grant Epiphany the wisdom, faith, and knowledge needed to follow the ever-present Holy Spirit into all that God would have us discover and celebrate.
Faithfully yours,
