Epiphany 351 Update: June 26, 2019
One of the non-negotiable commitments Epiphany made in purchasing the property at 351 East 74th Street is that our new church home would be fully accessible. That means the installation of two distinct elevators. And, as an added bonus to support Epiphany Under the Stars and other gala events, as well as the Sunday coffee hour, a Dumbwaiter to bring food upstairs to the Nave. This week Civil Engineers are on site digging test pits for the elevator shafts as well as probing the foundation.
The primary elevator will be located in the lobby of the Parish House and will access all floors from the cellar to the roof. For security purposes, the two floors where the Church of the Epiphany Day School will be housed will only be able to be accessed by a security code or card. A second elevator will be located in a second, smaller lobby that will more directly access the Parish Dining Room and the Church. In short, there will be four different ways to reach the Church level: by the redesigned exterior steps, by the elevator in the lobby of the Parish Dining Room, by the elevator or by the interior staircase in the main Parish House lobby. But to get to that outcome civil engineers are digging down, down, down to see what is holding up this historic building and confirming the solid foundation on which we will build our new life, ministry, and mission. And, don’t forget, the renderings of various spaces at 351 are now on the parish website. Take a look when you have a minute and see what the future holds by God’s continued grace and provision.
