From The Reverend Elise Hanley, Associate Rector Designate
I am so excited to be called as your next Associate Rector! From the time I first stepped foot in Epiphany to attend the 5:00 pm Eucharist 10 years ago, I have known of Epiphany to be a welcoming and spirit-filled parish.
I will return to my home Diocese of New York after two and a half wonderful years of serving in New Haven, CT both as the Associate Rector of Trinity on the Green, and as an Assisting Chaplain for the Episcopal Church at Yale University. I have had the privilege of doing ministry with Children, Youth, Families, and Young Adults, as well as folks with all varieties of need through our Chapel on the Green ministry.
A born and raised New Yorker, I attended the General Theological Seminary, graduated from Union Theological Seminary in May 2016, and was ordained a priest by Bishop Dietsche in October 2016. Prior to seminary, I worked at Marble Collegiate Church as Director of Mission and Outreach, as well as Coordinator for its Women’s, Arts, and LGBTQ fellowship groups. I also helped to oversee the outreach programs of my sponsoring parish, St. Bart’s, including their 365-night a year women’s shelter. I am a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and I worked as a stage and production manager on, off, and way off Broadway prior to discerning a call to the priesthood.
I am married to Chris Ashley, who serves as the Administrative Chaplain at New York Presbyterian Hospital. We make our home with two outgoing, friendly cats. A longtime vegetarian and animal lover, I also enjoy running, documentary films, traveling, Irish step dancing and learning the Irish language. I look forward to meeting all of you, and to worshipping, serving, and growing together.
